About Hyderabad

The capital of India’s Telangana state, the city of Hyderabad rests on the banks of the beautiful Musi River. Hyderabad is a destination rich in tradition, culture, and history, and has a very modern IT sector too. The heart of the city boasts upscale restaurants and shopping facilities, while the outer areas feature plenty of interesting spots, including business centres, traditional palaces, European-colonial structures and plenty of historical sites.

Don’t Miss

Steeped in history, Hyderabad is the perfect place to explore Southern India’s past. The Old City is where most of the old landmarks are located, the most famous being the Charminar. This mosque is one of the icons of the city, standing at a height of more than 45 metres. Another historic site that cannot be missed in the Old City is Golconda Fort. It is set within a 10km long wall, so tourists will need to set aside a few hours to explore everything.

Hyderabad has many family-friendly parks scattered across the cityscape. Asia’s largest snow amusement park is here, and a range of marine animals are on show at the GoGoa Aquarium. The NTR Gardens is a large amusement park that features various attractions, including haunted houses and mini-trains. This is certainly one popular activity that all families should experience.

Exploration of the many different religious sites in Hyderabad should commence at Birla Mandir, which is one of the most enticing Hindu temples in Southern India. The Balaji Temple is another famous Hindu site that welcomes many thousands of pilgrims annually. The Christian faith is also well-represented. St Georges Church was built in the mid-1800s, making it one of India’s oldest Christian structure.

Restaurants and Bars in Hydrabad

The Old City is where tourists will find the best and cheapest traditional food. Hyderabadi cuisine is one of the most delicious in the country as dishes blend both Mughlai tastes and Nizam-inspired flavours with south Indian food, including biryani and haleem. Districts like Koti and Abids have a huge range of cheap yet delicious traditional restaurants, while the more modern areas boast some self-proclaimed high-end restaurants. There is also excellent nightlife in Hyderabad, with clubs and pubs clustering around Begumpet and the nearby Road Number 1.

Several bazaars make it easy for tourists to find shopping facilities in the city. Wholesale markets like Madina Market Bazaar and Sultan Bazaar have a large selection of clothing and craft merchandise. Banjara Hills is home to United Designers, a local spot known for its fabulous fashion and interesting crafts.
