Krabi Guide

Krabi and Trang are provinces that are located beside the southern Thai peninsula’s beautiful Andaman Sea. They draw holidaymakers with their stunning beaches and seascapes, access to diverse watersports, delicious cuisine and relaxed nightlife. The northern areas of Krabi face the sheltered Phang Nga Bay. Tall limestone mountains rise up from the sparkling waters of the bay and the famous James Bond Island is one of many unforgettable daytrip destinations.

Don’t Miss

Krabi Town and Ao Nang beach are Krabi’s main tourist draws. They both offer excellent infrastructure with a real choice of hotels, eateries and nightlife. Railay Beach in Krabi is only accessible by boat from Krabi. The 15-minute journey transports visitors to another world and one of the finest rock-climbing destinations in Asia.

Koh Lanta is a group of islands to the south of Krabi Town. The group is noted for its clean white beaches, including Pra Ae and Klong Dao, plus its opportunities for diving trips. Trang is only just beginning to appear in tourism brochures and provides glimpses of the Thailand of long ago.

Visitors can reach the amazing islands via Trang town. Three piers in and around the town have ferries to islands such as Koh Ngai, Koh Muk and Koh Kradan. Kradan is surrounded by crystal clear waters that enable swimmers and snorkellers to view colourful tropical fish and coral.

Krabi and Trang’s attractions are not just limited to the sea. Within easy distance of Krabi, highlights include the national park at Than Bokkhorani, the unusual shell cemetery of Sussan Hoi and the forest hot-springs at Ron Khlong Thom Waterfall. In Trang Town, Tantayaapiram Temple gives interesting glimpses of southern Thai culture.

Restaurants and Bars

Good food is definitely a major reason to visit this part of Thailand. Fresh seafood dishes, massaman curries and the ever-popular Pad Thai noodles are found everywhere.

Ao Nang’s seafront, known as Seafood Soi, is a great location to sample Thai seafood dishes. Krabi Town Night Market plus Koh Lanta and Trang’s islands are other good places for seafood. In Krabi, Western themed bars and cafés serve a selection of international food and drinks.

Shopping

There are few international shops in Krabi or Trang and shopping is not the major attraction. Shops at Ao Nang and Krabi Town sell a choice of souvenirs, batik clothes and beachwear. There is a street market in the town every weekend evening. Vogue Department Store has similar offerings, but with the advantage of air-conditioning. In Trang, shops are more limited, although holidaymakers can buy most things they need.
